Usui Reiki

Gentle, Powerful, Ancient Healing Art

I practice the gentle, powerful ancient hands-on healing art of reiki as a treasured healing modality. For years I have practiced the Usui form of reiki, the first brought to this country, with great success. In 2015 I trained in Angelic Reiki and have embraced it as a unique and powerful divine system that brings new gifts. (Angelic Reiki) I offer each person the form of reiki best suited for them in each session.

Reiki is a Japanese word representing Universal Life Energy. When activated and applied for purposes of healing, it addresses body, mind and spirit. It accelerates the body's ability to heal physical ailments and opens the mind and spirit to the causes of disease and pain, the necessity for taking responsibility for one's life and the joys of balanced wellness.

I have practiced part-time in a doctor’s office (The Integrative Medicine Works in Alexandria,
VA) as well as maintaining my own private practice.  I am a qualified teaching master in the Usui System of Natural Healing and offer workshops for individuals and health professionals.

Benefits of Reiki
Reiki's usefulness extends from stress relief and energy balancing to physical healing of all magnitudes and healing of profound emotional wounds and spiritual distress. It can dramatically enhance recovery from surgery and trauma, and is very effective after intensive dental work. Reiki works both in-person and at a distance.

In recognition of its healing contributions, reiki is well integrated into a number of hospitals, and medical research to document the effects of reiki has been undertaken.

Reiki is Spiritual, but not Religious
While reiki is spiritual in nature, in that love and compassion are an important part of its practice, it is not a religion, and members of all religious persuasions including Christians, Muslims, Hindus and Jews use Reiki and find it compatible with their beliefs, as do those with no religious convictions.

Origins of Reiki
Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese Christian educator, developed the system after extensive travel, research, meditation and study of the healing phenomena of history's greatest spiritual leaders. Reiki was brought to the United States from Japan by Hawayo Takata in the 1930s.  Ms. Takata subsequently trained the first U.S. reiki masters, from whom many present practitioners trace their own reiki lineage.

A Reiki Session
A session normally lasts an hour or more.  Sessions can be given at home or in a hospital for those unable to travel.

At the first session we discuss your needs and desires.  We renew this conversation at each session. I ask whether there is any prayer or intention you would like me to hold as I work.  You lie on a massage table (or sit in a chair) clothed in loose, comfortable clothing as I gently place hands on the body in a series of stationary placements, offering the energy to all organs and systems and “listening” to where the body is most needy.  Placements can be above rather than touching the body if appropriate.

I support you in your present challenges, whatever their nature.  I invite the whole person to participate in the healing process. Your total energy system decides how much to draw in and where to direct it. I seek to provide stress relief and energy balancing, to accelerate healing, and to go beyond the symptoms to the causes of disease and pain, beyond the stories that define us to the deeper, core realities.  If you so desire, I am trained to support the spiritual journey, however you may name the holy.

Client Experiences
Many people experience heat from my hands.  Some experience emotional releases; some wish to move around; some see colors.  Most experience a deep meditative state.  One client experienced it as a deep energetic massage of internal organs.

Most experience reiki as a powerful, loving energy.  For some it provides a tangible bodily experience of the powerful loving presence of spirit; this experience enables and motivates them to learn to align themselves more fully with spirit.

Distance Healing
Reiki can be provided at a distance very effectively.  In this case, I need the name of the person and their specific location.  Although it is not necessary, some recipients wish to make an appointment so they can attune themselves to receive at the time I am sending the treatment.

Reiki and Life-Threatening Disease
A part of my practice has focused on those with life-threatening diagnoses.  In conjunction with cancer treatment, reiki has reduced or eliminated side effects of radiation and chemotherapy. Reiki is also sought after by HIV patients for its contribution to their
well-being.  For more on my experiences with cancer and HIV, and some client
comments, click here.
